It’s that time of year again! A New Year means that tax season is right around the corner. Whether you do your taxes yourself or use a professional, there are some valuable deductions and exclusions if you own a home. Here are some of them:

Home Mortgage Interest

Taxpayers that have a mortgage on their property and itemize their taxes can deduct the amount of mortgage interest paid during the tax year. You will receive a statement from your lender, a Form 1098, which will show not only the interest you paid during the year but any deductible points paid as well.

December 2015 Market StatisticsThe latest market statistics are out for Boca Raton real estate and Palm Beach County. These numbers are comparing the real estate market results from December 2015 to the results from December 2014. Some insights:

If you are considering selling, now is the time:

The year over year sales pace has increased in both Single Family and Condos, while inventory has decreased. What is this telling us? There is less than 5 months of inventory on the market (the amount of time it would take to sell all of the homes currently for sale). This means that Sellers have the upper hand. The rule of thumb is that six months supply is a balanced market. Anything less than that tilts towards a Sellers market, while anything longer tilts towards a Buyers market.

2016 numbers on beachWhat is in store for South Florida real estate in 2016? 

As the Broker of a productive Boca Raton real estate agency, I am involved in not only my own transactions, but those of my busy agents as well. Additionally, I am an avid consumer of business and political news, and am particularly interested in how current trends impact our local community.

Whether someone is buying or selling or just curious, everyone seems to want to know what is happening in the real estate market.  The most recent local market update has been released for Boca Raton real estate as well as for the entire Palm Beach County for November 2015. Some significant numbers to ponder:

  • 90 - This is the average number of Days on Market from when a Boca Raton property is listed until when it is sold. It is close to 14% less than the same period last year.
