Did you know that Alzheimer’s disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States? According to the Alzheimer’s Association, it kills more than breast and prostate cancer combined and in 2016, Alzheimer’s and other dementias will cost the nation $236 billion dollars.
Every 66 seconds someone in the United States will develop this debilitating disease and the numbers of Americans living with this disease is growing exponentially. In 2016, approximately 5.4 million Americans of all ages, not just the elderly, have Alzheimer’s disease.
Alzheimer’s is a disease that touches all of us. It is not a part of normal aging. It is a disease that attacks the brain, leading to a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life. Currently, there are both drug and non-drug treatments for Alzheimer’s, but to date, there has been no cure.
Researchers are currently looking for new treatments to alter the course of the disease and hopefully a cure will be found in the not too distant future. Research, of course, takes time and money and that is where we come in.
On Sunday, September 25, 2016, the agents of Boca Expert Realty will be participating as a team in the 2016 Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Boca Raton. The 2 mile walk will start and end at the Mizner Park Amphitheater and we would love it if you could join us. The registration desk opens at 6:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 8:30 a.m.
