Due to the success of Mizner Park and the building of the downtown area of Boca Raton, a Hyatt Hotel has been proposed for the area. Rentals have always been a big part of downtown, but this area has never had a hotel renting rooms by the night.

The plans for the new hotel were submitted to the city a couple weeks ago. If built, the hotel would be found at the corner of East Palmetto Park Road and Federal Highway. It will have 13 stories and 200 rooms.

This isn't the first time a hotel has been proposed for the area and they have had other proposed by franchise operators. However, if approved, this would be the first downtown hotel to receive the official nod.

Ruby Childers, downtown manager of Boca, said, "They are excited to see the project come in and add one more element to the diverse mix of the downtown area."

It's too early to know whether the project will receive approval or not, but the city is considering the proposal.

Location and Details of the Project

If the city approves the new Hyatt Hotel, it will provide a location, which is currently the staging area for The Mark at Cityscape. The Mark is a 208-unit residential project. This location was already approved for a hotel once, but that was a completely different project.

Some members of the City Council and Boca Raton Advisory Committee believe there's importance in having a brand name attached to the hotel downtown. With the beach close by and Mizner Park providing great shopping, it won't be hard for the hotel to attract guests.

The hotel is proposed to stand 140 feet high and become the tallest building in the skyline of the city. Rooms would be as large as 820 square feet, which is larger than some of the apartments in the area.

Many believe that if the Hyatt Hotel project is approved, it will be the first of many others to come to the Boca area. It could lead to may boutique hotels with five-star accommodations becoming a part of downtown Boca Raton.
