The Zimmer Construction Consultants in charge of the Swim & Racquet Center of Greater Boca Raton was given a directive recently. They were told that the HOAs should have a say before any more design work is done.

This directive wasn't because the HOAs want to get rid of the project, but because they want to make sure residents get what they want out of this new center. The center will be located at 21626 St. Andrews Boulevard and plans will revamp the current property.

The master plan includes improvements to the pro shop, parking lot, playground, pavilions and an interactive fountain. The old restaurant may be replaced with a two-story building, as well.

The architect hired for the project. Douglas Mummaw has stated that the company needs guidance when it comes to the design. He also stated that residents from the south don't want a lot of improvements. However, he believes if their vision was improved and they were allowed to put in their own input, their opinion may change.

The goal of the commissioner, council and everybody involved is to create a pleasing project for the residents in the area. Commissioner Steven Engel is concerned that southern neighborhoods will only see gravel and cement, instead of a pleasing look.

Arthur Koski, the interim director of the Via Verde Homeowners Association has reminded those in charge of the project that it's important to get feedback from residents before they start on a project objected to by many of the southern neighborhoods. Most HOAs just want the commissioner to put out a feeler and do line of sight studies before moving forward with the design.

Along with this project, the district would like to improve and replace some of the maintenance buildings, which are currently just trailers. However, they are being very careful to ensure all new buildings fit into the landscaping of the area. The consultants for the project will be working with the homeowners in the next 30 to 60 days before they report back to the district.
