A new public library is opening at 400 NW 2nd Avenue in Boca Raton. This library will be nearly 42,000 square feet in size and will provide plenty of great services and events for residents. This new library will be nearly twice as big as the former building, which is currently closed. This will allow the library to serve the public better, host more events and provide more programs for children and adults.

The library will open in unique fashion with the Pass the Book event on June 20th, followed by the Opening Day Events on June 22nd. The Pass the Book event will start at 10am and residents will create a line from the old Downtown Library location to the new one. After the line has formed, books will be passed, one by one, from one library to the other. This will help to move the last books from the library as the community celebrates the 50 years of service from the old building and look forward to service from the new library building.

Opening Day Events on June 22nd will start at 10am and will include:

  • Ribbon Cutting
  • Harry Potter's World
  • Meet Luna the Sea Turtle
  • Family Carnival
  • Treats for Teens
  • Film & Discussion of The City Dark

Until the new library opens, the Spanish River Library is open with expanded hours. Once, the new downtown library opens, the hours will go back to normal.

The new building will feature a Mediterranean feel and will include walkways and a plaza. Many improved services will be provided, such as spaces for over 700 people to use for computing, reading, meeting and studying. A community meeting room will provide seating for 155 people and the new library will provide 70 computers for public use, along with full Wi-Fi services. Ten private study rooms will also be part of the new library.
