Spring has officially arrived and the Florida Realtors® market report for February 2017 has come with it. The real estate market in Palm Beach County continued its healthy streak from January. Though changes were more subtle, both sales and inventories went up continuing our ongoing trend of a balanced South Florida market.

February saw a slight increase in sales of single-family homes with 1,160 completed transactions, 1.2 percent more than last year. A 6.8 percent hike in the median sale price to $315,000 was even better news for sellers of single-family homes. The Florida Realtors® report for December 2016 is in, and Palm Beach County’s numbers are interesting. Keeping with trends demonstrated in past months, sales slowed down slightly as the year closed out — reflective of a market that may be shifting from one that favors sellers.  However, the other statistics brought good news for buyers and sellers alike.

 The market for single-family homes was healthy in December, despite a slight drop in closed sales. Completed transactions fell by 4.9 percent, sitting at 1,413 at the end of the month. The number of golf courses has declined steadily since 2006, with hundreds more closing each year than opening. The majority of these are public courses, as local governments cannot afford to keep losing taxpayers’ money to maintain their courses.
